I generally find my inspiration amongst the unique natural scenery and wildlife of Kaikoura although I sometimes venture all over the South Island of New Zealand for subject matter. My painting style varies from finely detailed landscapes to spontaneous impressions of wildlife. I often use a combination of acrylic and oil paints applied by brush or airbrush onto prepared canvas or MDF board.
Occasionally I combine a little sculpture into my wildlife paintings by carving the subject protruding beyond the canvas. This has the effect of ‘freeing’ the subjects from the confines of the painting and is often the best way I can capture them.
Another common approach I have is to paint my works on many separate panels often of varying size and proportions (up to 21 so far!)
The result is a unique contemporary finished work.
I have a passion for the outdoors and regard it a privilege to be able to live by painting it.
